Every Year the Alaska Wood Turners Association gets together for the spring picnic in the month of May. This is primarily a fun get together for all our woodturning club members to relax and enjoy spring in Alaska. The picnic is kicked off with a short club meeting followed by a woodturning demonstration by one of our turners.

The Annual AWA Picnic was held on May 23, 2011 at the Trotter Estates in Palmer. Mr. Trotter slaved over the hot barbeque while others (even the dog) watched and waited for the scrumptious food.

Bill Bowers demonstrated hand chasing threads on epoxy in woodturned boxes. There is a detailed explanation available in his book titled "Turning Boxes W/Threaded Lids ", published by Schiffer Book for Woodworkers.

The May meeting/picnic also hosts an instant gallery, in which members are encouraged to bring and show off some of their work, and then members vote on their favorite pieces. Three Peoples Choice awards are given. This years results were:

1st Place
Jeff Trotter
Nested Madrone Bowl Set

2nd Place

3rd Place
