Alaska Woodturners' Association at the Alaska State Fair

Every year at the Alaska State Fair, various turners in the Alaska Woodturners' Association demonstrate the art of wood turning.  During this time,  the turners turn all sorts of items such as weed pots, bottle stoppers, small bowls, spinning tops and an assortment of other items.  These are then given to fair goers from the small child to the Senior Citizen.

AWA is happy to announce that Ann Farling, Kristine Chase and Sharon Combs have teamed up to be Fair Coordinators for the club. Thank you ladies, your help is greatly appreciated.

Take a look at the gallery pictures on the bottom of this page to see how our organization impacts others.

Burt Biss organized this venture for AWA for many years. He was at the fair faithfully everyday of the fair to ensure there was a demonstrator turning wood.

He organized the booth setup, the procurement of entrance tickets and scheduling of all the volunteer turners.  This event, thanks to Burt, is Alaska Woodturners' Association's biggest event for bringing in new members and promoting woodturning in the State of Alaska.
