November 2009
AWA has settled
into our new home at Hardware Specialties for our monthly meetings.
We want to say a big THANK YOU
to all of those members that show up early and stay late for setup and take
down.
Randall Farris
was the demonstrator this month. He showed us how to make a special top that
flips onto its stem. Randall then demonstrated the techniques
required for building his Vase that is actually a box.
September 2009
We have moved
our meeting to a new location at Hardware Specialties and this was our very
first meeting in the new digs. Lots of new setup challenges and figuring
out where to put what where and how that is going to work here. We had a
great time checking it out with lots more room for others to come and
participate.
Kris Hlebechat
was our demonstrator for this meeting. He showed us how to make pepper mills and
explained how he creates his glue ups for the mills. Not only was it our
first meeting of the year, the first time to meet in our new location, it was
also Kris' first time to demonstrate and he did an Excellent job of it too.

The turnout to
the AWA meetings are always packed as you can see by the group photos. Mike
wanted a Birdseye view so he sat up in the loft during the meeting. Randy
Farris demonstrated ebonizing woods like Ash and Oak. He also showed how to use
black patinating wax to highlight the grain.

In spite of the
extremely cold weather our members showed up in force again. They are such a
great group of men and women who are exited about woodturning. This
month's demonstrators were Wayne Boden and Richard Raynor. They shared with us all
the different aspects of making pens. Showing what kind of equipment you need to
the polish for finishing the pen.
