This year turned out to
be an exciting and skill building symposium that will be remembered by all
who attended. Our internationally renown master turners were Dick Sing from
Illinois and Soren Berger from New Zealand.
Dick taught us how
to make a variety of projects such as amazing inlays, fancy bird houses,
kaleidoscopes, mounted calculators and most importantly how to use an
eccentric chuck for inlays.
Soren Berger showed us
how to turn a sphere which really enhances your tool handling. He also
taught us how to turn a lampshade, scoop and canisters.
Two local turners
Richard Acuff and Randall Farris demonstrated this year. Richard
showed how to turn a bowl and Randall demonstrated how to turn a vase.
A special treat was the
instant gallery and viewing all the amazing pieces that our club members
turned. On Saturday the gallery was judged by Dick Sing and
Soren Berger and they selected the top ten pieces. Of these ten the
first place received a prize of $75, second received $50 and the third place
received $25.
